You will receive your payment either by BACS or a business cheque as it is illegal to make payments by cash. Scrap metal dealers must have a named cheque or printed receipt of the transaction, along with a record of the person who made the transaction. Without proof, the transaction will be rendered as incomplete and considered an offence under section two of the Scrap Metal Dealers Act (SMDA). This regulation was bought into effect to combat scrap metal theft and rogue traders. Hence paying for scrap vehicles in cash has been illegal in the UK since the 1st of October 2013. The price paid for your vehicle is dependent on a number of factors such as the condition of interior and exterior of the car, condition of the engine and additional accessories like alloy wheels.
